Dragon Age: The Veilguard won’t have DLC, team is focused on Mass Effect 5

After what appears to have been a quite successful launch for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which broke player count records for BioWare and EA games on Steam during its launch day, fans could have reasonably expected to see more from the game’s colorful cast of characters. Every other Dragon Age game has had post-launch DLC content, often with big story implications — such as Dragon Age: Inquisition’s DLC Trespasser, featuring the heel-turn from companion character Solas that set him up to be the antagonist at the outset of Veilguard. In a surprising break with tradition, however, Veilguard’s creative director John Epler told Rolling Stone that there’s no DLC coming for the game.

Instead, the report reads, “the developers’ full attention has now shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect as their current project.” Polygon had a recent chat with Epler as well as game director Corinne Busche in which Busche emphasized the team’s goals with regard to this point.

“The main thing for us is that it was very important that this game felt [like] the most complete story that we’re trying to tell,” Busche told Polygon. “So to be honest with you, we’re wholly focused on that right now. There’s been a lot of effort to make sure that this is a complete adventure.”

Thus, the story of Veilguard is what it is, with no addendum coming down the pike. And with the team pivoting over to help develop the next Mass Effect entry, it definitely seems as though Dragon Age fans will have to wait before returning to Thedas. Let’s just hope it isn’t as long of a wait as the ten years between Inquisition and Veilguard.
