‘Constriction’ case walkthrough, hints, and solution in Rise of the Golden Idol

“Constriction” is a case that acts as the prologue in Rise of the Golden Idol, teaching you both how to play the game and giving you a shocking vignette to start.

As with all of our Rise of the Golden Idol case guides, our goal here is to provide a hint-based experience that will lead you to the solution without automatically showing you how to solve it. We’ll start out with small hints for the puzzle, escalate to bigger ones, and eventually just spell out the answer if it’s still not clicking for you. Constriction names

There are only two faces you need to put to names in this vignette.

First hint

• An object revealing the victim’s name is on his person.
• The information you need to identify the killer is on the victim’s body.

Second hint

• The victim’s name is on a name tag attached to his jacket.
• Compare the patient sheet with the cell numbers on the wall to discover the killer’s name.

Solution

• The victim’s name is: Morg Brakka.
• The killer’s name is: Oriel Toussaint.

Constriction events

The event requires 10 words to solve in this vignette.

First hint

• The first word describes the killer.
• The sixth word is the murder weapon.
• The seventh word is where the murder weapon comes from.
• The eighth and ninth words are the location of the murder.
• The tenth word describes that location.

Second hint

• The first word describing the killer is found on the patient sheet.
• The second and third words are the killer’s first and last name.
• The fourth and fifth words are the victim’s first and last name.
• The sixth and seventh words describe an item on the floor of the cell.
• The eighth and ninth words can be found on the murder object.
• The tenth word describes the type of hospital this is, and isn’t used in the modern parlance.

Solution

The professor, Oriel Toussaint, killed Morg Brakka with a strap from a straightjacket in the Red Wood asylum.
