Amazon’s October Prime Day returns Oct. 8-9

Amazon has announced its next Prime Day, and it’s just weeks away. The two-day October Prime Day sales-a-thon starts Oct. 8 at 12:01 a.m. PT / 3:01 a.m. ET and runs for 48 hours through Oct. 9. Expect steep discounts across Amazon’s entire storefront — which, if past is prologue, should include great deals on video games, board games, toys, Blu-ray box sets, Lego, and more.

The biggest and best deals will be exclusive to Prime members — which is also the case year-round, as we’ve seen even this week with this adorable $33 charger that’s around $50 for non-Prime members. Amazon Prime costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually, which equals out to about $40 in savings if you pay for 12 months upfront. (There’s also 30-day free trial available for new members.) A Prime membership also gets you free delivery and access to Prime Video, which just won Emmy Awards this week for Fallout and Mr. and Mrs. Smith — both very great series, I’ll add.

One of the best Prime perks for many a Polygon reader, however, is the bountiful number of free games offered throughout the year — with several free Lord of the Rings games currently headlining a list of dozens. We expect more freebies to be added as we approach the holidays.

As ever, we’ll be on hand around the clock during Prime Day and in the lead-up to the event, curating the best deals from both Amazon and other retailers.
