Studio Hermitage partners with Dark Horse for Our Brilliant Ruin comic series
Transmedia company Studio Hermitage announced it will be partnering with comics publisher Dark Horse to create Horror at Crane Mansion, a three-installment series set in the world of the Our Brilliant Ruin tabletop role-playing game. The TTRPG, which is free to download on DriveThruRPG, takes place in the world of Dramark, a Gilded Age society set against a backdrop of Lovecraftian horror.
The comics will follow the story of consulting detective duo Elizabeth Ranseur and Arielle Wren, whose contract to vet the suitors of a wealthy heiress grows more complicated when guests at their client’s birthday party begin turning up dead. The announcement for the miniseries describes the comic as an “Edwardian eldritch-nightmare meets Upstairs-downstairs drama.”
This is the second non-tabletop adaption of Our Brilliant Ruin, following the Clawmoor Heights audio drama which was released earlier this year. Studio Hermitage’s expansion into the world of comics follows in the steps of tabletop giants like Critical Role, who have also published canon comics with Dark Horse. The comparison to Critical Role’s work with Dark Horse is more than theoretical, as Horror at Crane Mansion’s cover artist Helen Mask has a distinct style that has been seen in her work on Critical Role: The Tales of Exandria.
In the company’s announcement, Studio Hermitage CCO Justin Achilli said, “We’re very pleased to work with Dark Horse and a team of extremely talented creators to bring the gilded-age drama and gothic horror of Our Brilliant Ruin into the exciting world of comics.”
Other members of the Crane Mansion creative team include comics writer Cullen Bunn (Arkham Horror: The Terror at the End of Time), artist Christopher Mitten (Witchfinder: The Reign of Darkness), colorist Piky Hamilton, and letterer Frank Cvetkovic.
The first edition of Our Brilliant Ruin: Horror at Crane Mansion will be available online and in comic shops on March 26, 2025.
