Somebody made the video game equivalent of It Follows and it looks awesome

It’s October, which means you’re likely getting in the mood for Halloween later this month by watching, reading, or playing any number of horror or horror-adjacent media right now. In addition to all the exciting (and terrifying) movies released this year, there are also plenty of terrific horror games to choose from like Hollowbody or the upcoming remakes of Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2. You can add one more game to that list: Crowded. Followed., a new survival horror game that plays out like the interactive equivalent of 2014’s It Follows.

Developed by Shane Ferry, a Belfast-based designer who creates games under the name “Night Dial,” the premise of Crowded. Followed. is summed up almost entirely in the name itself. You play as a random bystander who happens upon a man bleeding out in an alley next to a briefcase. After agreeing to take the briefcase from him, the man warns you that you’ll have to find a way to keep it away from an entity who will stalk you until it has pried the case out of your cold, dead hands.

Only we can see it now.

🩸 Be careful- it may take the form of someone else
🩸 Don’t lose your breath
🩸 Escape the city

No one can see the entity besides the person who has the briefcase, and worse yet, it has the ability to transform its appearance in order to better hunt its prey. As if all that weren’t bad enough, your character suffers from severe claustrophobia and asthma! The only way to put distance between yourself and the supernatural monster that’s stalking you is to navigate through crowded subway tunnels, bustling nightclubs, and riot-filled streets with only your trusty inhaler in hand to keep you from unwittingly collapsing into your pursuer’s waiting clutches.

Crowded. Followed. is set to be released on Steam on Oct. 24, but you’re curious to experience the game for yourself a bit earlier, the prototype demo is available to download and play on itch.io.
