One Piece season 2’s behind the scenes trailer is mysterious but still looks great

Production for season 2 of Netflix’s live-action One Piece is well underway, but probably still quite a ways off. Despite that fact, the streaming service did have a few details to share about the new season during its Geeked Week presentation, including a behind-the-scenes teaser that it released on Wednesday.

The teaser is hosted by Jeff Ward, who plays the fan favorite villain Buggy the Clown in the show’s first season, who takes us through a few of the key production departments on the show. He starts off by talking to costume designer Kerry Barnard in her massive warehouse full of costumes — which she says contains costumes for more than a thousand people. Also around to comment on costumes is showrunner Matt Owens, who talks about how the show includes iconic costumes from the manga, while also giving characters a few more looks that fit the spirit but may not come directly from the pages.

Ward also talks to Egbert Kruger, the show’s prop master, and production designers Tom Hannam and Max Gottlieb, who show off some of the show’s incredible sets, including Ipponmatsu’s arms shop, which fans of the manga and anime will certainly recognize.

While the video certainly has a few Easter egg teases for the new season, it’s also full of some very careful blurring to make sure that not too many details escape before they’re supposed to. Most notably, when Ward says the year we can expect season 2, he’s bleeped out and a black bar covers his mouth, hiding the much anticipated release date from us. That being said, it’s likely that live-action One Piece season 2 will arrive sometime in 2025.
