Horizon Zero Dawn remaster coming to PS5, PC

Sony Interactive Entertainment will release Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, according to a new rating from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, which detailed the unannounced game. The ESRB description of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is identical to the original Horizon Zero Dawn that first launched on PlayStation 4 in 2017.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered has not been officially announced by Sony or Guerrilla Games, but the project would be consistent with previous remasters of PS4 games (Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part 2). The remaster’s existence was first reported back in 2022. Polygon has reached out to Sony for comment on the remaster and will update when the company responds.

The original Horizon Zero Dawn is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. The game is also available on PC, thanks the 2020 release of Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition. It’s not clear yet what the Remastered version of Guerrilla Games’ open-world action-adventure game will bring to the Horizon Zero Dawn experience.

But the PS5 version would likely take advantage of the recently announced PlayStation 5 Pro, which will be released in November. The PS5 Pro will run games at smoother frame rates and higher display resolutions, and with better ray tracing than the base PS5 does, Sony says.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a “post-post-post-apocalyptic” adventure starring the heroine Aloy, a talented young huntress of mechanical beasts who is cast out from her tribe and desperately seeks answers about where she came from. In our review of the 2017 original game, we praised Guerrilla’s work as “a storied developer finally finding its voice.” Guerrilla Games released a sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, in 2022.

The story of Horizon Zero Dawn will also be reimagined in another game, Lego Horizon Adventures, a comedic and more kid-friendly spin on the original game with a Lego-fied aesthetic.
