First trailer for Netflix’s Devil May Cry captures the glee of Dante’s demon hunting

After brief teases and a behind-the-scenes peek at Netflix’s animated adaptation of the Devil May Cry video games, we finally have our first extended look at demon hunter Dante in action. Devil May Cry, created by showrunner Adi Shankar (CastlevaniaCaptain Laserhawk) and animated by Studio Mir, looks like a hell of a lot of fun — which helps soften the blow of the show’s delay to 2025.

The first real trailer for Devil May Cry shows Dante having the time of his life, slashing and shooting up demons, and pulling off death-defying tricks at 30,000 feet. Studio Mir (The Legend of KorraThe Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf) delivers clean animation that’s suitably stylish for Dante’s world.

Devil May Cry will follow Dante on his mission to avenge his mother’s death by ridding the world of demons. The fate of both the human and demon realms is in Dante’s hands, Netflix said in an official synopsis of the show.

Netflix’s Devil May Cry anime is based on Capcom’s 23-year-old action franchise of the same name, which was created by Hideki Kamiya, who left developer PlatinumGames this time last year. It’s been more than five years since we got a new Devil May Cry video game; Devil May Cry 5 was the most recent, and hopefully not the last.

Devil May Cry was previously expected to premiere later this year, but will instead drop on Netflix in April 2025.
